Born in Paris in 1987, Ugo Schildge is a painter and sculptor who graduated from the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in 2014. Influenced by Giuseppe Penone, under whom he studied, Schildge has developed a visual world inspired by nature, in which flora and fauna intertwine within fantastical compositions. An environmentally conscious artist without adopting an explicitly activist position, he explores the subtle relationship between humankind and the living world.
After spending five years in New York, where he joined the Invisible Dog Art Center residency programme and worked as an assistant to Korakrit Arunanondchai, he returned to France in 2018. In 2020, he became an artist in residence at Poush Manifesto. His solo exhibition Essence, held in Paris that same year, concluded an international trilogy initiated with Pollen in Shanghai in 2018 and followed by Nectar in New York in 2019, exploring the imprint of human activity on nature. Since then, his work has been presented in solo exhibitions and international projects across Paris, Shanghai, London, Switzerland and New York.
