Santiago Martínez Peral (born in 1974 in Madrid) is a painter whose work revolves around the figure - human bodies, animals, and vegetal forms which he fragments, immerses, and unfolds within the pictorial space. He graduated in 1998 in Fine Arts (painting and printmaking) from the Complutense University of Madrid, and also received an Erasmus grant at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia (1996). Nourished by art history, nature, and travel, his images revisit classical genres with a drive for renewal, through a painting practice conceived as an experience of physical and intuitive vision. Alongside his studio work, he develops set design and scenography projects (notably with Teatro Tribueñe) and has taken part in several artist residencies, including JOYA: AiR, The Fish Factory Creative Centre, and Art House Holland.
